No, you can use molle attachments, velcro straps, gear ties, Quick-Fist clamps, etc.

Installed these yesterday. Super functional and sturdy. Storage is lacking on my 24 Colorado and these will free up some room. Look great and definitely make a great spot to store a “banana” holster.
